Tutor Program

Some students learn best with one on one assistance. Each Tutor works with a limited number of students on either academic improvement, or as a mentor working on self-esteem and motivation.

Tutor at Holy Trinity Episcopal School

As an HTES Tutor, you will have the opportunity to support one or two students on a one-on-one basis, typically for one hour a week during the school year. This commitment is for a minimum of one semester to maintain stability for the student's schedule. Tutoring sessions may include working on foundational reading or math skills, completing homework, assisting with a long-term class assignment such as a book report or research project, or helping a student catch up, due to absence.

The two approaches we encourage are Academic-focused and Mentor-focused. For the Academic focus, the Tutor's goal is encouraging and supporting steady improvement in reading and math skills, and any other academic tracks with which the student may be struggling. Mentor-focused tutoring focuses more on developing self-esteem and motivation skills, building the student's can-do attitude and ability to tackle challenges.

Tutors also work with the Head of School and the teachers regarding progress and effectiveness of tutoring sessions. This conversation works both ways, with ideas and techniques shared between the teachers and the tutor to increase the program's effectiveness for each student.

How do I Become a Tutor?
Start by contacting Jim Kelly, the Tutoring Coordinator, through the school or church office. After the initial conversation, a completed application (see below) must be submitted. All Tutors are then interviewed by the Tutoring Coordinator and Head of School. They must also complete a screening process which includes a background check, fingerprinting, and completion of the school's child safety training course.

I'd like to be an HTES Tutor!
